ORGANISATION // Lewis and Harris Youth Clubs Association
PROJECT // Lewis and Harris Mountain Bike Project
TOTAL PROJECT COST // £12,586
LEADER FUNDING PROVIDED // £11,327.40
The project aims are for The Scaladale Centre to provide a range of mountain biking opportunities for local children and young people. In addition, to use the same resources to extend their tourist season, attracting tourists to LEWIS AND HARRIS for guided mountain biking and to stay in the Scaladale Centre Hostel for self catering mountain bike holidays.
The project will benefit the local communities in several different ways:
1.Physical and mental health benefits for young people.
2.Increased choice of school holiday activities for low income families.
3.Inclusion and social opportunities for young people living in rural areas.
4.Confidence building for young people, who will be intrinsically learning new skills in a growth industry which will positively impact on aspirations for future employment and also give young people reasons to stay in the Hebrides or to return once they have been away to College or University.
5.Economic benefits of attracting visitors to the area in the shoulder season. In the long term this increased activity should fund The Scaladale Centre's continuation of this project.
